Lost Roman Heroes - Episode 12: Aemilianus
Adopted grandson of Scipio Africanus, and grandson of Consul Paulus (of Cannae fame) - setup well at birth. Loved by the Senate, sent to Africa for the third installment of the Punic Wars. Successful in war and peace, Carthage didn't stand a chance. What is that music we hear building in the background, is that the Imperial March???

John - thanks so very much for listening, and for taking the time to reach out to us! You may well be right on Aemilianus, the reality is that he earned the Grass crown fair and square, nothing to shake a stick at. I think that we are guilty of forming biases and not looking at the data dispassionately. Matteo and I debate that whole ”likability” thing all of the time. We still have a running debate on Trajan - when you get to his episode, let us know what you think!

I think I would rate Aemilianus higher in the military success category. While I agree with the brilliant hosts that he is on the dark side of Rome, he did win the crown for being the first through the wall, the Grass crown, and he won the enemy kings armor in single combat. So, should we have to like a Lost Roman Hero candidate in order to recognize their accomplishment? Also, love the show!
